Meeting the challenges of energy transition
LEADING THE WAY TO DECARBONIZATION
Climate action and energy transition are accelerating a global shift towards renewable and low-emission sources.
According to the International Energy Agency, fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas) have accounted for a broadly stable proportion of global energy consumption for decades but are expected to decline significantly by 2030.
The transition to renewable energy (wind, hydrogen, biomass, solar, among others) is now underway. Governments and businesses are expanding investment in clean technologies to reduce carbon emissions and address the challenges of climate change. Projects involving new nuclear reactors and green hydrogen are at the heart of current research and development efforts and will require increasing engineering expertise over the coming decade.
FD GROUP LEADING THE TRANSITION
This highlights the need to rapidly accelerate the development of energy infrastructure and investments related to the transition. Although renewable sources are essential for dramatically reducing global emissions, their intermittent nature, dependent on variable and often unpredictable weather conditions, remains a significant constraint.
In this context, energy storage stands out as one of the most critical challenges for the next 25 years.
Efficient, scalable storage systems will play a key role not only in stabilizing the grid and balancing supply and demand, but also in ensuring the continuity, security and reliability of the global energy supply.
